Celebrating the Completion of BLITS Training Batch 3

What is BLITS?

There is always something special about completing a training program—especially one dedicated to helping children unlock the life-changing skill of reading. As we celebrate the successful completion of the third run of the BLITS (Beginning Literacy Instruction Through Sounds) Training Program, we are grateful for the opportunity to learn, grow, and prepare ourselves to make a difference in the lives of young learners.

A Special Letter of Invitation

One of the highlights of the BLITS Training Program was the heartfelt invitation extended by our BLITS Coordinator, Ma’am Arlene G. Buenaventura.

In her letter, Ma’am Arlene shared the vision behind BLITS and the importance of equipping individuals who are willing to invest their time and effort in helping struggling readers. She explained how the program differs from traditional reading instruction by using a research-based approach that allows children to begin reading meaningful words earlier, building confidence and motivation from the very start.

More than presenting a methodology, her invitation was a call to ministry. She reminded participants that teaching a child to read is one of the most meaningful ways to impact a life. Through proper training, assessment, and guidance, Equippers become instruments in helping children discover not only literacy but also hope and opportunity for the future.

Her closing challenge resonated with many of us:

“Will you join us today and experience the joy of helping a struggling student learn to read?”

As Batch 3 participants, we answered that invitation. We came eager to learn, and we leave inspired to serve. We are grateful to Ma’am Arlene for her leadership, encouragement, and unwavering commitment to helping children become confident readers.

A Journey of Learning and Preparation

Throughout the training, participants were introduced to the BLITS methodology and the principles that make it an effective reading intervention program.

Unlike traditional methods that teach letter sounds in alphabetical order, BLITS introduces sounds based on their frequency of use in real-world print. Letters that are commonly confused are intentionally separated, while sounds that are easiest to hear and sustain are introduced first. This sequence allows children to begin reading simple consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) words early in the process, helping them gain confidence and experience success from the very beginning.

The training also equipped future Equippers with practical skills in assessment, classroom management, program implementation, and child discipline—ensuring that they are prepared to support struggling readers effectively and compassionately.

A Lighthearted Observation

As the training came to a close, someone made an interesting observation that brought smiles to the group.

This was the third run of the BLITS Training Program, making us Batch #3.

We had five dedicated training staff guiding seven trainees through the journey.

For those who appreciate biblical symbolism, the numbers seemed memorable:

  • 3 is often associated with the Godhead—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • 5 is commonly linked with grace and favor.
  • 7 is often regarded as a number symbolizing completeness and perfection.

Whether coincidence or simply a fun observation, the numbers served as a reminder of God’s presence, grace, and faithfulness throughout the training experience.

Looking Ahead

More important than the numbers is the mission that lies ahead. The completion of Batch 3 represents another group of trained Equippers ready to serve children who struggle with reading. Every lesson taught, every sound mastered, and every word successfully read has the potential to change a child’s future.

The BLITS Program continues to demonstrate that effective literacy instruction can transform lives. Through dedicated volunteers, committed educators, and a proven methodology, children are given the opportunity to develop confidence, competence, and a lifelong love for learning.

As we celebrate the completion of BLITS Training Batch 3, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to Ma’am Arlene Buenaventura, the training staff, and every participant who devoted their time and effort to this worthwhile endeavor.

May the knowledge gained during this training bear fruit in the lives of many children in the days ahead.

Congratulations, BLITS Training Batch 3!

“Will you join us today and experience the joy of helping a struggling student learn to read?”

Indeed, we have—and we look forward to helping many more children discover the joy of reading.

To God be the glory! 📚✨
